Eddy Van Halen, who became very famous after Van Halen’s first record came out, was a very innovative guitar player and is responsible for the “hot rod” guitars we al came to know and love. Eddy was one of the first players who experimented with a double coil pickup in one of his strat style guitars. We call this guitar the fat strat because it sports not only 2 single coil pickups but also a (fat) humbucker in the bridge position.
